Is there some instrument that I could record more accurate geospatial data with? I’m willing to tinker and potentially build something as well. I don’t have much experience with GIS but I am very eager to learn. I’ve made a sketchy little map where I traced the contours by hand from screenshots of the unit and interpolated where I needed to, but I’m unhappy with how it turned out. Garmin’s Quickdraw Community lets boating anglers share HD mapping content and download user-enhanced data to supplement existing Garmin mapping options. Another problem I have with this is that there is no easy way of getting the map off the unit, plus all of the data is proprietary. You can also download maps other users have created. Green indicates good depth and GPS position, and a speed under 16 km/h (10 mph). When this setting is turned off, the contour areas use standard map colors. When this setting is turned on, the colors indicate the quality of the recording. My problem with that is the map that I made isn’t very accurate because there is a lot of shallower areas and Quickdraw doesn’t know where the shoreline is, resulting in the contours below 6ft to be very inaccurate.
